Back in the late 1800s, when Henry DeLand essentially founded the city, he envisioned a blend of culture, education and beauty, using the term “Athens of Florida.” The City of DeLand was officially incorporated in 1882, the year before Stetson University, Florida’s first private college, was established. The 19th-century downtown buildings are a stone’s throw from Stetson, but there are ample examples of history and the same natural wonders, including the Historic Garden District, that attracted its founder in the first place. - Prep school planning its inaugural classes
This fall, about 100 students in grades 8 through 11 will mark the first classes of a new private school in DeLand. As DeLand Preparatory Academy prepares to open its doors to new Patriots students for the inaugural 2018-19 school year, board members, faculty, staff and administrators are excited for the possibilities. - USF joins UF, FSU as preeminent university
University of South Florida System President Judy Genshaft has been on a mission to get USF on the same level as the state’s two flagship schools, the University of Florida and Florida State University. On Wednesday, the mission was realized when the Florida Board of Governors’ Strategic Planning Committee unanimously approved USF’s status as a preeminent university. This demonstration class teaches family and friends what they need to know in the event of a life-threatening emergency — for example, if your baby is choking or isn’t moving or breathing because of a fall or a near drowning.
In order to provide an optimal experience and ensure that other class participants may focus on our instructor, please do not bring small children.
